This video “Ah Kew the digger” is a documentary video by Ah Kew (李永球)who is from Taiping,Perak, Malaysia and who has involved in digging the history, culture and chinese custom in his hometown -Taiping for more than 20 years. He gained a lot of respect from what he has done and his stamina in doing all the compilation of history and stories which were unknown by most people. His work needs a lot of effort especially all the information he gain is by the field work investigation he personally carried out all the time from one place to another and even to the old graveyard.

Fujimori Terunobu: Architecture (English and Japanese Edition)

  41li7-nzszl__ss500_

recommended a book that I just finished reading last night,Fujimori Terunobu: architecture
The architect is from Japan, the same badge as Toyo Ito , his project is not as huge as those you imagine. He prefer doing small projects which have to deal with natural sites, he experiment with different local lumbers, soil, bamboo, charcoal on his building.
I amazed with his style of designing the buildings,he has his own way to approach certain stuffs. He really inspired me a lot.

The Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by the Japan Invaders

This memorial hall is designed by China well known architect 齐康教授 and where the building is sited today was the excution grounds and mass burial grounds during the Nanjing Massacre by Japan Invaders in 1937.
Covering an area around 28,000 square meters , the whole memorial ground is potrait like the graveyard for the 300,000 victims who were killed during the cruel holocaust. The architect applied abstract susbstances and sculptures which bring a strong feeling of solemn and sorrow when one enters the memorial ground. Grey granite blocks are the main building materials while rocks become the complentary hardscape. The memorial ground composed of 3 main sections: the museum exhibiting the historical displays, the outdoor exhibits and the remaining bones of the victims. The 3 parts are collaborated fairly well to guide the visitors through the story of Nanjing Massacre.

Alice’s tea party

011

Alice’s Tea Party is an installation by Nendo in Tokyo for an event held at Ozone Living Design Center, celebrating the 100th anniversary of English tea brand LIPTON in Japan.

021

Nendo created Alice’s tea party based on the Mad  Hatter’s Tea Party in the story ALice in the Wonderland.Tables and chairs  have being distorted to create a sense of receding depth in the room.

031

The purposely distorted furnitures bring the visitors into a space which seems to be long and narrow. Visitors might have to squeeze into the chairs or hanging while sitting on their chairs as the designer shrank and enlarged some of the chairs.

Tokyo’s kisala Restaurant is composed of four areas: one counter each for Japanese food and Western food, a cigar bar, and a private dining room. We gave each space a different feel by varying the tone of the floorboards, and gradually increased the brightness of the floorboards to connect the space. Equally subtly, the spaces for the cigar bar and private dining area are defined by lace curtains, and mirrored panels give discrete spaces the feeling of being connected. Textiles with colours chosen to match the tones of the floorboards give a sense of texture
